CHRISTMAS EDITION
My 10 top styling tips
- It is always good to pick three coordinating colours that go well together and one of those colours being a neutral colour (eg red white denim or gold, brown and beige). You don’t necessarily need to be all matching in identical outfits. Mix it up a little with textures too but stick to your colour palette. Try not to ' Match ' the colours too much as if it's too close but not close enough, it can be more obvious within a picture.
- I always recommend no logos if possible. You want your images to be timeless and like with lots of brands taste and fashion changes over time. Keeping things simple avoids that risk.
- Remember, if your children are comfortable in their clothes, then they will be more relaxed and calm during the session. Christmas does often bring those itchy materials. Cute as they may be, Consider this, especially if they have any sensory needs.
- As it is a 20 minute session we don’t have time for big outfit changes. If you did want to change into a Christmas outfit or PJs for a shot, If you did have your heart set on two outfits I welcome you to do this but please note that you will eat into your 20 minutes so that is entirely up to you and your session.
- I Invite you to bring little accessories that you think you'd like to include in your session that compliment your outfits.. Teddies, specific toys, hats, headbands, bows etc. We can always do some shots with and without so you get the choice and adds to the variety within your gallery.
- Plan your children’s sleep / awake time for that day if your session is during there sleep time.
- Clean your children’s faces (eyes, nose, mouth), it’s amazing what is always left behind. I have wipes in the studio for you to use too. Those crusty nostrils are a bugger this time of year.
- Fingernails, hair cleaned and cut. I will not be editing special requests such as fixing chipped nail polish or frizzy hair during Xmas Minis.
- Remove all hair ties or kids watches before the shoot to ensure no marks are there.
- Enjoy and relax. I ADORE children feeling safe to be completely unapologetic. With exerpience working with many children. From all ends of the spectrum I honestly find such a joy in being able to document their real personalities and not the ones we conform our children to have in public settings. ( I'm a mummy too, I get it ). Lets just celebrate who they are and the stage we are in. There is no harm they can do in the studio. Everything is there for them to explore and play with ( minus the plug sockets ). I don't want you apologising for your child's behaviour. Let me gain control and earn trust to get the shots I need.
